These are some of my favorite icons and graphics I've made through the years. The brush metal graphics are intended to be for the main navigation, or icon representations for a home page of a web 2.0 style website.
The social media buttons are intended to go to either the heading part of a website of the footer portion of the website. Unlike the brush metal icons, these social media buttons are not in brush metal and appears to be recessed.
To create a recessed effect in inkscape, the first step is to make shape with a fill color.
Then you have to copy this shape over the original, and remove the fill color but add a black outline.
Blur the new shape with the outline color and lastly, copy the original, un-blurred shape and use that shape and use that shape to clip the blurred outline. Group the graphics if preferred.
